Infant feeding, whether at breast, bottle, or eating solids, can be significantly affected by tightness, discomfort, or weaknesses in baby's mouth and body and may need a deeper evaluation. Difficulties suckling, eating, swallowing, and bodily movements/range of motion can become problematic due to positional abnormalities in utero, or
Infant feeding, whether at breast, bottle, or eating solids, can be significantly affected by tightness, discomfort, or weaknesses in baby's mouth and body and may need a deeper evaluation. Difficulties suckling, eating, swallowing, and bodily movements/range of motion can become problematic due to positional abnormalities in utero, or as a result of labor and birth trauma. I will examine baby's entire body to help determine if there's a connection between baby’s posture, tension, muscle tone, reflexes, and feeding difficulties. I will look for obvious concerns with movement and muscle tone, plagiocephally, tortocollis, jaw function, tongue range of motion, palate structure, oral tone, and suck patterns of your baby. I will provide a plan of action to target any areas of concern specific to your baby's needs.I will work with your baby to provide treatment (think of these as physical therapy for baby's oral tightness or weakness) for various oral restrictions. These treatments may include:
Stretches, oral massage for cheeks, under tongue, and/or lips, and sucking exercises.
